Mueller polarimetric imaging for fast macroscopic mapping of microscopic collagen matrix remodeling by smooth muscle cells

Olga Chashchina et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that Mueller polarimetric imaging is an appropriate tool for assessing SMC activity and reveals that EC-SMC communication promotes a more contractile SMC phenotype. Furthermore, the findings suggest that Mueller polarimetry can be useful for studying spatial heterogeneities in hydrogel remodeling by SMCs.

Polarisation optics for biomedical and clinical applications: a review

Chao He et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the application of vectorial information obtained through polarization optics in biomedical and clinical research, with an emphasis on methodologies related to tissue polarimetry and the adoption of the Stokes-Mueller formalism. It also presents recent breakthroughs, development trends, and potential multimodal uses in conjunction with other techniques.
