Overview of Polyphenols and Polyphenol-rich Extracts as Modulators of Inflammatory Response in Dry Eye Syndrome

Milosz Caban et al.

Summary: Plant polyphenols and polyphenol-rich extracts have a wide range of properties, such as anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, and pro-apoptotic effects, which can be used to treat dry eye disease. Long-term use of synthetic drugs and artificial tears may cause side effects.

Nationwide epidemiological approach to identify associations between keratoconus and immune-mediated diseases

Janneau L. J. Claessens et al.

Summary: The study found novel associations between keratoconus and Hashimoto's thyroiditis as well as inflammatory skin conditions. It also confirmed known associations with atopic conditions such as allergic rash, asthma, bronchial hyperresponsiveness, and allergic rhinitis. The positive association between keratoconus and multiple immune-mediated diseases suggests that systemic inflammatory responses may play a role in its onset.

Dry eye in Sjogren's syndrome - characteristics and therapy

Milosz Caban et al.

Summary: Sjogren's Syndrome-related dry eye and non-Sjogren's Syndrome-related dry eye have distinct differences that can be identified through specific markers. In addition, hydroxychloroquine may be an effective alternative treatment for Sjogren's Syndrome-related dry eye. However, more research is needed to develop newer and safer therapeutic agents for this disorder.

Myopia in school-aged children with preterm birth: the roles of time spent outdoors and serum vitamin D

Hung-Da Chou et al.

Summary: Among school-aged children born prematurely, more time spent outdoors is associated with a lower odds of myopia. However, serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration is not significantly associated with myopia, with a high proportion of participants having insufficient levels.
