Increase in plasma CCL11 (Eotaxin-1) in patients with alcohol dependence and changes during detoxification

Ming-Chyi Huang et al.

Summary: Alcohol consumption is associated with increased CCL11 levels in both human patients with AD and mice. CCL11 levels are positively correlated with AD severity and may serve as a potential indicator of AD. Reductions in CCL11 levels after alcohol discontinuation are associated with alleviation of clinical symptoms, indicating that CCL11 may play a role in the neurobiological mechanisms underlying AD.

Western and Carnivorous Dietary Patterns are Associated with Greater Likelihood of IBD Development in a Large Prospective Population-based Cohort

Vera Peters et al.

Summary: Objective Nutrition plays a role in the development of Crohn's disease [CD] and ulcerative colitis [UC]. The study found that a Western dietary pattern was associated with a greater likelihood of CD development, while a carnivorous pattern was associated with UC development. Additionally, a higher diet quality score was protective against CD development.

Habitual dietary intake of IBD patients differs from population controls: a case-control study

Vera Peters et al.

Summary: Evidence-based dietary guidelines are lacking for IBD patients, leading to potential nutritional deficiencies and disease course implications. The study compared dietary intake of IBD patients with controls, finding differences in food groups consumed by patients in remission and with active disease as compared to controls. Special attention to protein intake is needed for the treatment of these patients.

Dietary patterns, food groups and nutrients in Crohn's disease: associations with gut and systemic inflammation

S. Ali Naqvi et al.

Summary: This study found associations between intake of leafy green vegetables and gut inflammation, as well as the omega 6:3 ratio and systemic inflammation in Crohn's disease patients. Different cytokines were significantly associated with various dietary variables. Further research in patients with more severe disease activity is needed to explore these relationships.

Role of Eosinophils in Intestinal Inflammation and Fibrosis in Inflammatory Bowel Disease: An Overlooked Villain?

Inge Jacobs et al.

Summary: Eosinophils, a type of white blood cell, play a crucial role in gastrointestinal health and are increasingly being studied for their inflammatory and pro-fibrotic functions in inflammatory bowel disease and other chronic inflammatory conditions. Research focus is shifting towards innate immunity and understanding the inflammatory properties of eosinophils.

Long-term dietary patterns are associated with pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory features of the gut microbiome

Laura A. Bolte et al.

Summary: The study revealed correlations between dietary patterns and microbial clusters, as well as associations between individual foods and nutrients with bacterial species and metabolic pathways. Processed and animal-derived foods were linked to certain bacteria and endotoxin synthesis pathways, while plant foods and fish were associated with different bacteria and pathways related to nutrient metabolism. These findings provide insights into how diet affects gut inflammation and suggest directions for future intervention studies.

Dietary Intake Pattern is Associated with Occurrence of Flares in IBD Patients

Vera Peters et al.

Summary: Dietary patterns are associated with the onset of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), with a traditional Dutch or Western diet pattern being linked to an increased risk of flare occurrence in IBD patients. Further confirmation through prospective studies is needed.

Orally administered anti-eotaxin-1 monoclonal antibody is biologically active in the gut and alleviates immune-mediated hepatitis: A novel anti-inflammatory personalized therapeutic approach

Tawfik Khoury et al.

Summary: Personalized therapies aim to optimize the safety-to-efficacy ratio by selecting patients with specific biomarkers. The study demonstrates that orally administered anti-eotaxin-1 antibody shows biological activity in alleviating immune-mediated liver injury and exerts a systemic immunomodulatory effect.
