Monitoring and evaluation of food and nutritional security: a look at the official publications

Amanda da Silva Bastos de Oliveira et al.

Summary: This article examines the development of monitoring and evaluation mechanisms for food and nutrition security in Brazil. The analysis highlights the significant role played by the National Food and Nutrition Security Council, the Interministerial Food and Nutrition Security Chamber, and the Brazilian Food and Nutrition Security Conferences. However, these inter-sector relations and decentralization of actions may be weakened in certain political contexts.

Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: From Pathogenesis to Clinical Impact

Alfredo Caturano et al.

Summary: Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) is characterized by fat accumulation in hepatocytes without alcohol consumption, with insulin resistance (IR) playing a key role in its development. A recent expert consensus has suggested using the term Metabolic-Associated Fatty Liver Disease (MAFLD) instead. This disease is associated with an increase in free fatty acid levels and pro-inflammatory cytokines, ultimately leading to insulin resistance and increasing cardiovascular risk.

Pathophysiological mechanisms and clinical evidence of relationship between Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and cardiovascular disease

Raffaele Galiero et al.

Summary: There is a strong association between Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) and increased cardiovascular (CV) risk, possibly due to mechanisms such as insulin resistance, inflammation, oxidative stress, and triglyceride accumulation. Studies have shown that NAFLD is related to preclinical atherosclerotic damage and various cardiovascular events. Treatment of NAFLD may have an impact on cardiovascular outcomes.
