Intraspecific Diversity of Microbial Anti-Inflammatory Molecule (MAM) from Faecalibacterium prausnitzii

Sandrine Auger et al.

Summary: The study identified and analyzed MAM proteins encoded by different F. prausnitzii strains, revealing at least 10 distinct MAM clusters with varying anti-inflammatory properties. In vitro and in vivo experiments confirmed the differences in anti-inflammatory capacities among these MAMs. The findings provide insights for selecting probiotic strains of F. prausnitzii for chronic inflammatory diseases.

Biodiversity and Physiological Characteristics of Novel Faecalibacterium prausnitzii Strains Isolated from Human Feces

Wenbing Hu et al.

Summary: This study isolated 26 novel strains of Faecalibacterium prausnitzii from human feces and characterized their biodiversity and physiological characteristics. The strains were classified into two main phylogroups, and exhibited variations in ultrastructure, colony morphology, growth performance, and short-chain fatty acids-producing ability.

The impact of probiotics, prebiotics, and synbiotics on the biochemical, clinical, and immunological markers, as well as on the gut microbiota of obese hosts

Tatiane Ferreira da Silva et al.

Summary: Obesity is considered a global epidemic, with evidence showing that the intestinal microbiota may influence the pathogenesis of obesity. Modifying the composition of the gut microbiota through probiotic, prebiotic, and synbiotic supplementation is seen as a potential treatment option for obese individuals, impacting gene expression, metabolism, and adipose tissue development positively. Further research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms of action of probiotics and prebiotics on human health in relation to obesity.

Lycium ruthenicum Anthocyanins Attenuate High-Fat Diet-Induced Colonic Barrier Dysfunction and Inflammation in Mice by Modulating the Gut Microbiota

Baoming Tian et al.

Summary: The study suggests that anthocyanins from Lycium ruthenicum (ACs) can reduce weight gain, increase SCFA-producing bacteria, decrease endotoxin-producing bacteria, and lower endotoxin levels by modulating the gut microbiota. This leads to alleviation of colonic barrier dysfunction and inflammation induced by a high-fat diet.

Summary: Orally administered probiotics face challenges in the mouth, stomach, intestine, and colon, primarily due to the reduction of viable bacteria and colonization resistance by commensal bacteria. Factors affecting probiotic viability and their mucoadhesive properties, including mucosadhesion-related proteins on the cell surface, are discussed in this review.

Changes in Glutathione Content in Liver Diseases: An Update

Mariapia Vairetti et al.

Summary: Glutathione, a tripeptide primarily found in the liver, plays a crucial role as a reducing agent in redox processes. It not only acts as a free radical scavenger, but also influences cell survival, necrosis, and apoptosis. This review provides an overview of GSH synthesis, metabolism, regulation, and its relationship with liver diseases.

The adverse metabolic effects of branched-chain amino acids are mediated by isoleucine and valine

Deyang Yu et al.

Summary: The study found that different branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) have distinct metabolic effects, with low isoleucine diet improving hepatic insulin sensitivity and energy expenditure. It is suggested that reducing isoleucine may be a new approach to treating and preventing obesity and diabetes.

Summary: This study demonstrated that fecal microbiota transplantation from susceptible CSDS mice induced anhedonia-like behavior in antibiotic-treated WT and Ephx2 KO mice. Furthermore, it was suggested that Faecalibaculum rodentium might be responsible for the observed anhedonia-like behavior following FMT from susceptible CSDS mice.
