Urinary Malondialdehyde (MDA) Concentrations in the General Population-A Systematic Literature Review and Meta-Analysis

Antonio Toto et al.

Summary: Oxidative stress is associated with inflammation-related human diseases, and malondialdehyde (MDA) can serve as a biomarker for lipid oxidative damage. To understand the changes in urinary MDA in populations, it is important to establish the background range of MDA concentration. Through a systematic review and meta-analysis, we found that the urinary MDA concentration range for healthy adults is 0.10mg/g creatinine, with a 95% confidence interval of 0.07-0.12. Age, geographical location, and smoking status significantly affect urinary MDA concentrations.

Dietary patterns and biomarkers of oxidative stress and inflammation: A systematic review of observational and intervention studies

Krasimira Aleksandrova et al.

Summary: This review of observational studies and intervention trials in the past five years found that plant-based dietary patterns, such as the Mediterranean and DASH diet, were associated with lower levels of oxidative stress and inflammation. On the other hand, western and fast food diets were positively associated with higher levels of oxidative stress and inflammation. Further large-scale intervention trials are needed to confirm these findings.

Oxidative stress and its role in cancer

Marija Dragan Jelic et al.

Summary: Reactive oxygen species (ROS) can damage biomolecules and lead to oxidative stress, potentially causing various diseases. Research focuses on 8-OHdG and antioxidative enzymes as biomarkers for oxidative stress in cancer, with results indicating lower levels of antioxidative enzymes in cancer patients and higher levels of 8-OHdG and MDA.
