Effects of hesperidin in orange juice on blood and pulse pressures in mildly hypertensive individuals: a randomized controlled trial (Citrus study)

Rosa M. Valls et al.

Summary: The study found that hesperidin can reduce systolic blood pressure and pulse pressure in pre- and stage-1 hypertensive individuals, sustained consumption of orange juice can enhance the postprandial effect of a single dose, and decreases in systemic and transcriptomic biomarkers were concomitant with changes in blood pressure.

New Insights into the Metabolism of the Flavanones Eriocitrin and Hesperidin: A Comparative Human Pharmacokinetic Study

Maria Angeles Avila-Galvez et al.

Summary: The study found that intake of hesperidin-rich sources, like orange juice, can reduce cardiometabolic risk, but the low solubility of hesperidin affects its bioavailability and microbial metabolism, leading to high inter-individual variability. In contrast, human metabolism of (lemon) eriocitrin is less understood, with higher solubility that may result in more bioavailable metabolites than hesperidin.

Bioavailability comparison between a compound comprising hesperetin-7-glucoside with β-cyclodextrin and a mixture of hesperidin and dextrin in healthy adult human males

Masamitsu Moriwaki et al.

Summary: The study compared the pharmacokinetics of a compound containing hesperetin-7-glucoside with beta-cyclodextrin and physically mixed hesperidin/dextrin in 8 healthy adult male subjects. It was found that the area under the curve of total plasma hesperetin concentration after consuming hesperetin-7-glucoside with beta-cyclodextrin was more than 100-fold higher than that after consuming hesperidin/dextrin.

8 weeks of 2S-Hesperidin supplementation improves muscle mass and reduces fat in amateur competitive cyclists: randomized controlled trial

Francisco Javier Martinez Noguera et al.

Summary: The study found that chronic intake of 2S-hesperidin can help reduce body fat percentage and lower limb fat mass in amateur cyclists. Additionally, ingestion of 2S-hesperidin promotes muscle development in this population.
