Post-stroke depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms and their associated factors: A cross-sectional study

Khader A. Almhdawi et al.

Summary: Individuals post-stroke in Jordan experience high proportions of mental health symptoms, including depression, anxiety, and stress. Predictors of these symptoms include SF-12 Mental Composite Score and grip strength. Depression and stress symptoms are significantly associated with discontinuation of rehabilitation services, while fewer hours of sleep are significantly associated with anxiety and stress. Gender and self-reported physical diseases other than stroke are significantly associated with depression symptoms. Future studies are needed to develop effective interventions for improving post-stroke mental health.

Metformin restores hippocampal neurogenesis and learning and memory via regulating gut microbiota in the obese mouse model

Xiaoyi Ma et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that metformin can restore neurogenesis in the dentate gyrus of obese mice, prevent cognitive decline, and potentially inhibit neuroinflammation in the brains of obese mice by regulating gut microbiota composition.

TRPV4 Regulates Soman-Induced Status Epilepticus and Secondary Brain Injury via NMDA Receptor and NLRP3 Inflammasome

Shuai Wang et al.

Summary: The study suggests that the blockade of TRPV4 can protect against soman exposure and reduce brain injury following status epilepticus by decreasing NMDA receptor-mediated excitotoxicity and NLRP3-mediated neuroinflammation, offering a new direction for the treatment of soman poisoning.

Genome-Wide Screen and Validation of Microglia Pro- Inflammatory Mediators in Stroke

Jianhua Wu et al.

Summary: Our study identifies Hmgb2 and Ctss as major mediators of microglial inflammatory response in stroke, inhibition of which can protect against brain damage and improve neurological functions in stroke mice. These findings suggest Hmgb2 and Ctss as promising targets for stroke therapies.

Depressive-, Cognitive- or Stroke-Related Risk Factors of Post-Stroke Depression: Which One Could Better Help Clinicians and Patients?

Rebecca Perrain et al.

Summary: The study confirmed that a previous history of depression is a significant predictive factor for post-stroke depression, with patients who have a history of depression having a 10-fold increased risk for PSD. This risk factor allows for the identification of a subgroup of patients at high risk for PSD.
