Elucidating the Mechanisms Responsible for Hadley Cell Weakening Under 4 x CO2 Forcing

R. Chemke et al.

Summary: Through an experiment of abruptly increasing CO2 concentration, it has been found that the weakening of the Northern Hemisphere Hadley cell is mainly due to the increase in tropical static stability and the increase in the latitudinal gradient of latent heating.

A-Train estimates of the sensitivity of the cloud-to-rainwater ratio to cloud size, relative humidity, and aerosols

Kevin M. Smalley et al.

Summary: Precipitation efficiency plays a crucial role in influencing climate sensitivity by controlling cloud cover. This study, using CloudSat observations, found that cloud size and environmental humidity have significant impacts on warm-rain efficiency. Larger clouds and lower relative humidity were associated with higher warm-rain efficiency, while aerosol optical depth showed little correlation with warm-rain efficiency when conditioned by cloud-top height.
