Damage monitoring of carbon fibre reinforced polymer composites using acoustic emission technique and deep learning

Claudia Barile et al.

Summary: In this research, a deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) was trained to classify image-based Acoustic Emission (AE) waveforms for online damage monitoring. The CNN achieved high accuracy in classifying different damage modes of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) composites. The classified AE descriptors were able to accurately identify the occurrences of different damage modes, validating the accuracy of the CNN.

Designing a Deep Neural Network for an Acousto-Ultrasonic Investigation on the Corrosion behaviour of CORTEN Steel

Claudia Barile et al.

Summary: The integrity of CORTEN steel exposed to corrosion agents was studied using the Acousto-Ultrasonic approach. The attenuation in wave propagation due to corrosion and geometrical configuration of CORTEN steel was analyzed in the time-frequency domain using Mel spectrogram. A Deep Learning Neural Network was employed to classify acoustic emission waveforms propagated through the CORTEN steel and attenuated due to corrosion formation and geometrical configuration.

Utilization of LSTM neural network for water production forecasting of a stepped solar still with a corrugated absorber plate

Ammar H. Elsheikh et al.

Summary: This study introduced a LSTM neural network model to forecast the freshwater yield of a stepped solar still and a conventional one, resulting in an improved yield by 128% for the stepped solar still compared to the conventional one. The forecasting accuracy of the proposed model was high, with a coefficient of determination of 0.97 and 0.99 for the conventional and the stepped solar still, respectively.
