Implementation of viscosity and density models for improved numerical analysis of melt flow dynamics in the nozzle during extrusion-based additive manufacturing

Ases Akas Mishra et al.

Summary: The study aims to improve the assessment of melt flow behavior inside the nozzle by implementing viscosity and density models, and numerical simulations are conducted for different combinations of important process parameters to observe their relationship with print quality. The best combination of printing parameters is proposed for ABS and PLA materials, and extended stable zones for polymer melt deposition in the nozzle are obtained at specific extrusion velocities and temperatures.

Pluronic F-127/Silk Fibroin for Enhanced Mechanical Property and Sustained Release Drug for Tissue Engineering Biomaterial

Jina Youn et al.

Summary: An injectable thermosensitive hydrogel was developed for drug and cellular delivery, combining pluronic F-127 and silk fibroin. The addition of silk fibroin to pluronic F-127 improved mechanical strength, decreased degradation rate, and enhanced the release of hydrophobic drugs. The composite showed promising potential as a cell and drug delivery system for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.

Printable Alginate Hydrogels with Embedded Network of Halloysite Nanotubes: Effect of Polymer Cross-Linking on Rheological Properties and Microstructure

Svetlana A. Glukhova et al.

Summary: This study investigates the rheological properties of nanocomposite hydrogels, incorporating percolating halloysite nanotubes in a rigid network embedded in a soft alginate network cross-linked by calcium ions. The research reveals a pronounced shear-thinning behavior and significant viscosity drop, emphasizing the role of polymer cross-linking in enhancing the shear-thinning properties and viscosity recovery.

Injectable hydrogels based on oxidized alginate-gelatin reinforced by carbon nitride quantum dots for tissue engineering

Mojgan Ghanbari et al.

Summary: In this study, thermosensitive injectable hydrogels were fabricated using oxidized alginate, gelatin, and carbon nitride quantum dots (CNQDs) for tissue engineering. The addition of CNQDs improved the mechanical strength and durability of the nanocomposite hydrogels, while reducing biodegradation and swelling ratio. Additionally, the nanocomposite hydrogels showed good biocompatibility (>88%) and cell adhesion to MG63 osteosarcoma cells depending on the presence of CNQDs.

Shear-thinning and shear-thickening emulsions in shear flows

Marco E. Rosti et al.

Summary: The rheology of a two-fluid emulsion in semiconcentrated conditions was studied using direct numerical simulations. It was found that the effective viscosity of the system increases for shear-thickening fluids and decreases for shear-thinning ones, due to variations in local shear rates between interacting droplets.
