Removal of boron by a modified resin in fixed bed column: Breakthrough curve analysis using dynamic adsorption models and artificial neural network model

Shuqin Bai et al.

Summary: This study investigated the continuous removal of toxic element boron from aqueous solution using a new phenolic hydroxyl modified resin (T-resin). The results showed that the breakthrough time, exhaustion time, and uptake capacity of the column bed increased with increasing column bed height and decreased with increasing influent flow rate. The artificial neural network (ANN) model was found to be more accurate in predicting the breakthrough behavior of the column compared to the conventional models. The adsorption capacity of boron changed during five time regeneration.

Sai Kiran Mani et al.

Summary: Fixed-bed column adsorption studies were conducted using metal-complexed polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel beads to remove fluoride from groundwater. The results showed that the PVA hydrogel beads had high efficiency in removing fluoride, with a slight decrease in removal efficiency in the presence of interfering ions. Furthermore, the hydrogel beads were also effective in removing arsenate and chromate ions.

Efficient Adsorption Removal of an Anionic Azo Dye by Lignocellulosic Waste Material and Sludge Recycling into Combustible Briquettes

Abderrahim Kali et al.

Summary: The removal of dyes has become a significant problem in recent years, and finding green and eco-friendly adsorbents is a crucial task. In this study, almond shells were used as an adsorbent to remove methyl orange from aqueous solutions. The adsorption process reached equilibrium at 90 minutes and followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The Langmuir adsorption isotherm model was found to be suitable, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 15.63 mg/g. Thermodynamic analysis indicated that the adsorption process was non-spontaneous, endothermic, and physical in nature.

Summary: Alginic acid and its sodium salt are widely used pharmaceutical excipients in solid oral dosage forms, but their high variability requires a thorough understanding of the structure-property relationship to achieve high-quality and consistent drug products. Compaction studies have shown the relationship between the structure of alginates and their mechanical and dissolution performances, while different analytical methods help determine the major factors affecting the behavior of alginates in direct compression.Various strategies have been discussed to improve the properties of alginic acid as a direct compression excipient.

Huiping Zeng et al.

Summary: This study successfully prepared a high adsorption capacity granular adsorbent (GA) by using backwashing sludge as raw material, and demonstrated the effectiveness of using GA in fixed bed adsorption. Experimental results showed that with increasing bed depth, the adsorption capacity of GA for arsenic increased while the unit adsorption capacity decreased, with the ability to be regenerated using NaOH solution. The study not only effectively utilized waste iron sludge, but also showed that the GA column has a higher adsorption capacity compared to other adsorbents.
