An innovative annealing treatment method and its mechanism to refine deformed mixed grains of initial aged GH4169 superalloy

Ming-Song Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, an innovative annealing treatment method was proposed to refine the deformed mixed grains of the initial aged GH4169 superalloy. By combining aging treatment with continuous-cooling recrystallization annealing treatment (CC-RAT), both the nucleation rate and grain growth rate can be effectively controlled. The research results demonstrate that the microstructure can be fine and uniform by adjusting the heat treatment parameters, leading to improved performance of the alloy.

Tensile Test Coupled with an EBSD Study of a GH4169 Ring Rolled Product

Hao Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the plastic deformation behavior of the ring-rolled GH4169 alloy at the micro level through in situ tensile tests. The results show that the fraction of low-angle grain boundaries increases gradually during tensile deformation, and the misorientation evolution within the grain interior is severely inhomogeneous. Most of the slip system activation coincides with the Schmid law.

Correspondence between low-energy twin boundary density and thermal-plastic deformation parameters in nickel-based superalloy

Guo-zheng Quan et al.

Summary: This study developed an improved twin density model to investigate the relationship between low-energy twin boundary density (BLD Sigma 3n) and grain size, stored energy in thermal-plastic deformation process and solved it for Nimonic 80A superalloy based on EBSD statistical results. The results showed that BLD Sigma 3n increases with increasing stored energy and decreasing grain size, and higher BLD Sigma 3n with finer grains corresponds with lower temperatures and higher strain rates.

The Hardness Evolution of Cast and the High-Cycle Fatigue Life Change of Wrought Ni-Base Superalloys after Additional Heat Treatment

Juraj Belan et al.

Summary: Understanding the relationship between microstructure and mechanical properties is crucial for the production of high-stress components from Ni-base superalloys and optimizing the production process. The microstructure of Ni-base superalloys is closely related to the chemical composition, with various phases having both positive and negative effects on mechanical properties. The study aims to quantify structural parameters of different alloys and analyze the effect of heat treatment on phase morphology and volume fraction, as well as evaluate the impact on fatigue life.

Microstructure Evolution and Mechanical Properties of a Wire-Arc Additive Manufactured Austenitic Stainless Steel: Effect of Processing Parameter

Ping Long et al.

Summary: The study investigates the influence of linear energy input and cooling rate on the microstructure evolution, mechanical properties, and fracture mechanisms of steel deposited using cold metal transfer-based wire arc additive manufacturing system. The microstructures mainly consist of delta-ferrite and austenite dendrites, with sigma phase forming under low cooling rate conditions. The primary dendrite spacing decreases with lower linear energy input or higher cooling rate, affecting the mechanical properties of the steel. Mesoscopic damages are mainly caused by pore coalescence under low linear energy input, while dislocation piling up around delta-ferrite induces cracks under high linear energy input.

Effect of initial mixed grain microstructure state of deformed Ni-based superalloy on its refinement behavior during two-stage annealing treatment

Guan-Qiang Wang et al.

Summary: The initial mixed grain microstructure state of deformed Ni-based superalloy significantly affects its refinement behavior during two-stage annealing treatment, mainly determined by deformation energy and dynamic recrystallization (DRX) degree. Higher deformation energy leads to faster recrystallization rate and finer final annealed grains. The competition between static recrystallization (SRX) nucleation and breakage of delta phase also plays a role in affecting the dissolution of delta phase during annealing treatment.

Xu Yang et al.

Summary: Cold rolling with 84% reduction, followed by two-stage annealing, was effective in refining and homogenizing the grains of Inconel 718, leading to improved superplasticity. The introduction of crystal defects and storage energy during plastic deformation contributed to a dense and fine distribution of delta phase, enhancing the driving force for static recrystallization.

Summary: This study investigates the optimization double-stage annealing parameters for improving the mechanical properties of hot-upsetting GH4169 superalloy samples. Results show that the double-stage annealing treatment can improve the strength of the alloy, with a fracture mode consisting of a mixture of shear fracture and quasi-cleavage fracture. The improvement of strength by the double-stage annealing treatment is greater than the single-stage annealing treatment.
