Comparison of postoperative infection after emergency inguinal hernia surgery with enterectomy between mesh repair and non-mesh repair: a national database analysis

T. Sakamoto et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the safety of synthetic non-absorbable mesh repair in patients with incarcerated or strangulated inguinal hernia requiring enterectomy, compared to non-mesh repair. The results showed no significant differences in surgical-site infection and other secondary outcomes between the mesh repair and non-mesh repair groups.

Using a Reinforced Stapler Decreases the Incidence of Postoperative Pancreatic Fistula After Distal Pancreatectomy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Hani Oweira et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis confirms the effectiveness of using a reinforced stapler in reducing the incidence of postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) during distal pancreatectomy (DP). There was no significant difference in mortality rate, postoperative bleeding, and reoperation rate between the reinforced stapler group and the standard stapler group.

An Aggressive Approach to Locally Confined Pancreatic Cancer: Defining Surgical and Oncologic Outcomes Unique to Pancreatectomy with Celiac Axis Resection (DP-CAR)

Ryan K. Schmocker et al.

Summary: Modern chemotherapeutics have improved disease control for locally advanced pancreatic cancer (LAPC) patients. Surgical strategy such as distal pancreatectomy with celiac axis resection (DP-CAR) is being considered more frequently. DP-CAR can be performed with low mortality and manageable morbidity, with outcomes similar to resection of borderline resectable and resectable disease.

Comparison of minimal invasive versus open radical antegrade modular pancreatosplenectomy (RAMPS) for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma: a single center retrospective study

Hanyu Zhang et al.

Summary: This study compared the outcomes of open and laparoscopic RAMPS surgeries in patients with left-sided pancreatic adenocarcinoma. The results showed that both approaches had similar surgical and oncological outcomes, with no significant differences in margin clearance, lymph node retrieval, or long-term survival rates.

Validity of initial cancer diagnoses in the Diagnosis Procedure Combination data in Japan

Daisuke Shigemi et al.

Summary: This study compared the validity of cancer diagnoses in Japan's nationwide administrative hospital discharge database (DPC data) with hospital-based cancer registries in Osaka Prefecture. Results showed high concordance and positive predictive values of cancer diagnosis in the DPC data, but some specific types of cancer had low concordance in cancer stage, which may impact the results.
