Malignant and benign thyroid nodule differentiation through the analysis of blood plasma with terahertz spectroscopy

Summary: This study utilized terahertz time-domain spectroscopy and machine learning to analyze the plasma of patients with benign or malignant thyroid nodules and healthy individuals. Differences in absorption and correlations with glucose concentration and miRNA-146b level were found. A two-stage ensemble algorithm was proposed for spectral analysis, successfully distinguishing malignant and benign thyroid nodule patients.

Evaluation of in vivo THz sensing for assessing human skin hydration

Summary: Terahertz (THz) in vivo reflection imaging can be used to evaluate the water content of skin surface, effectively observing the presence of oil and water. THz sensing, in combination with corneometer measurements, can distinguish between subjects with different initial skin hydration levels, especially with oil-based samples. A moderate correlation was found between THz reflected amplitude and capacitance of untreated skin, suggesting promising potential for skin hydration assessment with THz sensing.
