Tunable light emission from carbon dots by controlling surface defects

Huijun Li et al.

Summary: In this study, carbon dots with tunable light emission were synthesized using a novel amide-assisted solvothermal approach. These carbon dots can exhibit blue, green, red, or white emission with relatively high photoluminescence quantum yields. XPS measurements and DFT calculations revealed that nitrogen substitution dominates blue emission, while introducing oxygen functional groups results in redder emission.
