Formation of Highly Active NiO(OH) Thin Films from Electrochemically Deposited Ni(OH)2 by a Simple Thermal Treatment at a Moderate Temperature: A Combined Electrochemical and Surface Science Investigation

Shasha Tao et al.

Summary: Electrodeposited alpha-Ni(OH)(2) thin films on Ti substrates were studied as cost-effective electrocatalysts for water-splitting devices. Annealing the films at 150 degrees C for 1 h significantly enhances their electrocatalytic activity for the oxygen evolution reaction. The induced structural evolution of alpha-Ni(OH)(2) improves electrical conductivity and accelerates the generation of active sites, resulting in improved activity and stability.

Dynamically Stable Active Sites from Surface Evolution of Perovskite Materials during the Oxygen Evolution Reaction

Pietro P. Lopes et al.

Summary: Perovskite oxides exhibit OER activity due to the interaction between a thin surface layer of Co hydr(oxy)oxide and trace-level Fe species in the electrolyte, leading to the creation of dynamically stable active sites. This surface evolution process driven by A-site dissolution and O-vacancy creation improves stability and activity-stability factor for CoOxHy/LSCO compared to nanoscale Co-hydr(oxy)oxide clusters.

Understanding the Evolution of Cobalt-Based Metal-Organic Frameworks in Electrocatalysis for the Oxygen Evolution Reaction

Xiaowei Cai et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have shown promising potential as electrode materials for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). This study revealed that MOFs with tetrahedral Co sites exhibit continuous active sites in the OER, while those with octahedral sites are inert. Co-N coordination is more favorable for electrochemical activation than Co-O coordination, leading to the gradual increase in activity of the MOF in the OER process.
