Single-Photon Near-Infrared-Responsiveness from the Molecular to the Supramolecular Level via Platination of Pentacenes

Yifei Han et al.

Summary: The sigma-platination of pentacenes is shown to be a feasible method for constructing single-photon NIR-responsive systems, offering advantages of low energy gap, high efficiency, and specificity. Transformation of pentacenes to endoperoxides results in color and absorbance changes, facilitating high photo-oxygenation efficiency and disruption of self-assembled nanofibers in one-dimensional supramolecular polymers. Overall, this strategy opens up new avenues for NIR photo-responsive materials at both molecular and supramolecular levels.
