Serotonin neurons modulate learning rate through uncertainty

Cooper D. Grossman et al.

Summary: This study shows that choice behavior in mice varies with different forms of uncertainty in environments with high uncertainty. The activity of dorsal raphe serotonin neurons can track these uncertainties and influence learning and decision-making.

A behavioural correlate of the synaptic eligibility trace in the nucleus accumbens

Kenji Yamaguchi et al.

Summary: Reward reinforces the association between preceding sensorimotor events and their outcomes. Recent studies have shown that synaptic activities triggered by these events leave a synaptic eligibility trace for 1 second, which induces synaptic plasticity in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) through reward-related dopamine. The contribution of this synaptic eligibility trace to behavior is still unclear.

Causal role for sleep-dependent reactivation of learning-activated sensory ensembles for fear memory consolidation

Brittany C. Clawson et al.

Summary: Learning-activated engram neurons play a critical role in memory recall but their role in offline memory consolidation is unclear. The authors demonstrate that sleep-associated reactivation of learning-activated sensory neurons is necessary for memory consolidation.
