Comparison of Program-centric vs Student-centric National Resident Matching Algorithms

Briance Mascarenhas et al.

Summary: The study found that the student-centric algorithm performed better in matching a higher percentage of students to their preferred programs, while the program-centric algorithm was associated with a lower program's last matched student rank. Overall, there was no significant difference in the percentage of students matched between the two algorithms. Further research is needed to understand the potential impact of these algorithms on cost and time demands, postmatch resident and program performance, and how well they adapt to a changing environment.
