Soil Nutritional Status Drives the Co-occurrence of Nodular Bacterial Species and Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi Modulating Plant Nutrition and Growth of Vigna unguiculata L. (Walp) in Grassland and Savanna Ecosystems in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa

Brenda T. Makaure et al.

Summary: This study investigated the symbiotic relationship between Vigna unguiculata and soil microbes and its impact on nitrogen nutrition and growth. The findings revealed that Vigna unguiculata can adapt to nutrient-deficient soils by establishing efficient symbiosis with soil bacteria and fungi, and fix nitrogen from the atmosphere. Different soil types affected the growth and nutrient assimilation of different Vigna unguiculata varieties.
