Lessons Learned From the Higher Risk Perception and the Efficient Flood Mitigation in Haji-Abad, Golestan Province, Iran, 2019

Mohammad Heidari et al.

Summary: This study found that successful implementation of immediate mitigation measures in Haji-Abad village was attributed to its favorable geographical location, appropriate education, and extensive family kinship among residents. These factors led to increased risk perception, enhanced collaboration among residents and local authorities, and active involvement of women in disaster management.

Examining the impact of rangeland condition on water conservation by using an integrated modelling approach

Mojgansadat Azimi et al.

Summary: This study integrated the SWAT and InVEST models to analyze the impact of rangeland conditions on water conservation in the Atrak River basin in Iran. The results showed a severe degradation of rangelands and a direct correlation between rangeland states and basin runoff. Significant improvements in water conservation could be achieved through rangeland management in the basin.

Evaluation of the Contribution of Pastures on the Economic Sustainability of Small Ruminant Farms in a Typical Greek Area

Artemis Papadopoulou et al.

Summary: This paper examines the economic performance of small ruminant farms using data from Greek sheep and goat farms, finding that grazing may not necessarily improve economic efficiency, with less grazed farms generally being more efficient. Greater organization is needed to ensure grazing has a positive economic impact on farms, including better accessibility to pastures, efficient rations, and training.

Multidimensional poverty of pastoralists and implications for policy in Boorana rangeland system, Southern Ethiopia

Galgalo Dika et al.

Summary: The study shows that the majority of Borana pastoralist households are multidimensionally poor, with education deprivation being the most severe issue. The econometric results indicate that multidimensional poverty is influenced by factors such as household head gender and age, size of cultivated land, highest education level of a household member, sanitation, home to center/town distance, and production per hectare of land.

How Mongolian herders perceive ecological change in a stable landscape

Batdelger Gantuya et al.

Summary: Climate change in Mongolia has affected rangelands, available forage, and ecological boundaries. Herders have a deep understanding of landscape and vegetation changes, which can help improve pasture management and promote natural regeneration processes. Their cooperation to address adverse changes is critical for sustainable land use.
