Summary: Microbial research in space has been ongoing for nearly 50 years, with the International Space Station serving as a key platform for studying adaptation and survivability of microorganisms in space conditions. Understanding the impacts of radiation and microgravity on microbial life aboard the ISS is crucial for developing countermeasures against potential harmful effects and harnessing their biotechnological properties. However, further extensive research on biotechnologically important microorganisms is necessary for long-term space missions to become self-sustainable.
