Characterization of monoclonal antibodies that specifically differentiate field isolates from vaccine strains of classical swine fever virus

Shijiang Mi et al.

Summary: This study systematically characterized monoclonal antibodies against classical swine fever virus (CSFV) and identified key antigenic epitopes associated with these antibodies. The results suggest that certain mutations may arise from long-term vaccination and result in viral evasion of host immune response. This study provides new insights into the development of a diagnostic strategy to differentiate vaccine strains from field isolates.

Summary: The study demonstrated that CSFV E2 and E2 + E-rns can induce high levels of antibodies and cellular immune responses in rabbits, providing complete protection against CSFV C-strain. However, E-rns alone was not able to confer protective immune response.

Assessing the Protective Dose of a Candidate DIVA Vaccine against Classical Swine Fever

Tinka Jelsma et al.

Summary: Classical swine fever is a highly contagious and deadly disease in swine, which can be effectively controlled by vaccination with the C-strain. The C-DIVA vaccine, which allows for differentiation between infected and vaccinated animals, provides excellent protection against highly virulent strains like the Brescia strain. A single vaccination with C-DIVA can protect pigs from infection.
