HCV Infection Alters Salivary Gland Histology and Saliva Composition

Summary: This study aimed to determine the association between xerostomia, SG dysfunction, and HCV infection, as well as to characterize the structural changes in SG and saliva composition. The results showed that HCV-infected patients with xerostomia exhibited low saliva flow, chronic sialadenitis, and SG fibrosis, along with significant changes in the structure and composition of saliva.

Abnormal signaling pathways and signaling networks were highly enriched in pSS patients. Overall, this study provides important insights into the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of pSS.
