Compensatory model predictive control for post-impact trajectory tracking via active front steering and differential torque vectoring

Mingcong Cao et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the trajectory tracking control of independently actuated autonomous vehicles after the first impact and proposes an integrated predictive control strategy. Three highlights include a compensatory MPC strategy, constraint transformation in MPC, and the development of an FCC-MPC controller to improve deviation attenuation in lateral and yaw motions. High-fidelity simulations show the proposed controller's advanced capabilities in vehicle safety improvement and better control performance after severe impacts.

Integrated Steering and Differential Braking for Emergency Collision Avoidance in Autonomous Vehicles

Reza Hajiloo et al.

Summary: This paper presents an integrated controller for autonomous vehicles that can react appropriately to sudden obstacles by employing differential braking to improve lateral agility and responsiveness. Additionally, a longitudinal controller is designed to track desired longitudinal velocity using a model predictive control method. The effectiveness of the proposed controller in preventing instability and collisions is demonstrated through simulations using an experimentally validated CarSim model.

A Data-Driven Method Towards Minimizing Collision Severity for Highly Automated Vehicles

Masoumeh Parseh et al.

Summary: This study proposes a data-driven motion planning method to minimize injury severity for vehicle occupants in unavoidable collisions, by establishing a metric that models the relationship between impact location and injury severity and including it in the cost function of a motion planning framework. The method considers vehicle dynamics and constraints through a precomputed trajectory library, allowing for efficient computation and accurate representation of the vehicle. Simulation results show that the trajectory associated with the minimum cost mitigates collision severity for occupants of passenger vehicles involved in the collision.
