Tuning electron transfer by crystal facet engineering of BiVO4 for boosting visible-light driven photocatalytic reduction of bromate

Guoshuai Liu et al.

Summary: The removal of bromate has gained attention in drinking water treatment, and photocatalysis technology using monoclinic bismuth vanadate (BiVO4) single crystal as a visible photocatalyst has shown promising results with almost 100% removal efficiency. The spatial transfer of photo-generated electrons and holes, as well as high photocatalytic activity, contribute to the effective removal of bromate ions.

Engineering BiVO4@Bi2S3 heterojunction by cosharing bismuth atoms toward boosted photocatalytic Cr(VI) reduction

Xinyi Lian et al.

Summary: By utilizing a friendly sulfurization process to construct a BiVO4@Bi2S3 heterojunction with cooperative sharing of Bi atoms, the photocatalytic efficiency is enhanced, carrier transport activation energy is reduced, and it shows excellent performance in reducing Cr(VI). The intimate atomic-level contact between BiVO4 and Bi2S3 accelerates carrier separation efficiency, enabling the reduction of Cr(VI) in less than 40 minutes.

Precise location and regulation of active sites for highly efficient photocatalytic synthesis of ammonia by facet-dependent BiVO4 single crystals

Guanhua Zhang et al.

Summary: Based on characterizations and experiments, it was confirmed that the cycle of oxygen vacancy-V4+/V5+ on the (040) facet is the exact active site for the photocatalytic NRR by bismuth vanadate single crystal. V4+ plays a role in N2 chemisorption, V5+ acts as an electron transfer bridge. In contrast, the (110) facet is a more inert facet for the pNRR.

Polypyrrole decorated ZnTi hydrotalcite with enhanced adsorption and Cr(VI) photoreduction activity under visible-light

Song Li et al.

Summary: The conjugated polymer polypyrrole (PPy) was used to decorate ZnTi hydrotalcite (ZnTi-LDH) to construct an organic-inorganic PPy/ZnTi-LDH composite, which exhibited superior photocatalytic performance and stability under visible light irradiation for Cr(VI) reduction. The enhanced photocatalytic performances were attributed to the combined effect of ZnTi-LDH structure and conductive PPy facilitating charge transfer and increasing visible-light absorption. The crucial role of PPy in Cr(VI) reduction and the proposed photocatalytic reaction mechanism were also discussed.
