mixl: An open-source R package for estimating complex choice models on large datasets

Joseph Molloy et al.

Summary: Mixl is a new R package for estimating advanced choice models, which greatly reduces memory usage and runtime by utilizing the inherent properties of the log-likelihood problem structure. It supports parallel computing and shows near linear speedups on up to 24 cores. Mixl is fast, easy to use, and scales well to very large datasets.

A study of group effects in pedestrian crowd evacuation: Experiments, modelling and simulation

Wei Xie et al.

Summary: This study implemented a new model that considers the impact of social groups on pedestrian crowd evacuation processes and calibrated model parameters through experiments. The results showed that group effects facilitated overall crowd evacuation, especially when the exit was wide, and that total evacuation time was shorter when groups within the crowd were larger.

CellEVAC: An adaptive guidance system for crowd evacuation through behavioral optimization

Miguel A. Lopez-Carmona et al.

Summary: This study focuses on improving crowd evacuation efficiency and safety through behavioral strategy optimization, proposing an adaptive guidance system called CellEVAC. Results show that CellEVAC outperforms other systems in simulated scenarios, especially in complex pedestrian interactions, demonstrating superior performance in terms of safety, evacuation time, and decision revisions.
