Effect of volatile fatty acids on adipocyte differentiation in bovine dedifferentiated fat (DFAT) cells in vitro

Yoshinao Oki et al.

Summary: The study established DFAT cells from mature bovine adipocytes and found that volatile fatty acids significantly influenced the differentiation of these cells into adipocytes. After adipogenic induction, b-DFAT cells showed increased expression of adipocyte-specific genes and redifferentiated into adipocytes with lipid droplet accumulation. The addition of acetate, a major energy source for ruminants, enhanced adipogenesis of b-DFAT cells in vitro.

Gut Microbiota and Short Chain Fatty Acids: Implications in Glucose Homeostasis

Piero Portincasa et al.

Summary: The gut microbiota consists of trillions of commensal microorganisms including bacteria, fungi, and viruses, which coexist in symbiosis with the host and have profound effects on human health. Short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are the most abundant bacterial metabolites in the human body and play an important role in metabolic, endocrine, and immune functions. Diet can influence the composition and activity of the gut microbiota, as well as SCFAs production and metabolic effects.

Docosahexaenoic acid-rich fish oil prevented insulin resistance by modulating gut microbiome and promoting colonic peptide YY expression in diet-induced obesity mice

Wanxiu Cao et al.

Summary: It is unclear how docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) improves insulin resistance via modulating gut microbiome in obese individuals. This study used a diet-induced obesity (DIO) mouse model to investigate the effects of DHA-rich fish oil (DHA-FO) on metabolic disorders and colonic microbiome. The results showed that DHA-FO reduced fat deposition, regulated lipid profiles, and alleviated insulin resistance by preventing the permeation of lipopolysaccharide and promoting peptide YY (PYY) secretion. DHA-FO also reversed microbial dysbiosis and altered gut microbial function, which were associated with PYY expression. Overall, DHA-FO enhanced insulin action on glucose metabolism by modulating gut microbiome and facilitating colonic PYY expression in DIO mice.

Short chain fatty acids: Microbial metabolites for gut-brain axis signalling

Kenneth J. O'Riordan et al.

Summary: The role of the intestinal microbiota in regulating gut-brain axis signaling has gained attention in recent years. Understanding the relationship between the gut microbiota, its metabolites, and the brain is crucial for developing new therapeutic approaches, including identifying psychobiotics. Current research focuses on the effects of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), such as butyrate, acetate, and propionate, on brain function, behavior, and physiology, and how these SCFAs enter the systemic circulation and can potentially impact the brain.

Summary: Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), produced during bacterial fermentation of dietary fiber, play crucial roles in regulating inflammation, carcinogenesis, intestinal barrier function, and oxidative stress. Their signaling mechanisms involve histone acetylation promotion and activation of G-protein-coupled receptors. SCFAs have a wide range of positive effects and show high therapeutic potential in human-related diseases.

Allobaculum Involves in the Modulation of Intestinal ANGPTLT4 Expression in Mice Treated by High-Fat Diet

Zibin Zheng et al.

Summary: Increasing evidence indicates that obesity is closely linked to cardiovascular diseases, fatty liver diseases, type 2 diabetes, and various cancers. Dysbiosis of gut microbiota has been identified as a causative factor of obesity. Recent studies have highlighted the role of ANGPTL4 in lipid metabolism and its interaction with gut microbiota. The present study demonstrates that a high-fat diet alters gut microbiota composition, increases ANGPTL4 expression, and promotes obesity-related changes in mice. The findings suggest a potential therapeutic strategy targeting ANGPTL4 and gut microbiota for the management of obesity and associated diseases.
