A chiral metal-organic cage used as the stationary phase for gas chromatography separations

Bo Tang et al.

Summary: Chiral metal-organic cages (MOCs) have been investigated as a novel stationary phase for gas chromatography (GC) due to their unique molecular recognition ability. The chiral MOC-PA exhibited high-resolution performance for a wide range of analytes, especially for amino acid derivatives, showing excellent separation repeatability and reproducibility. The experimental results suggest that MOC-PA has great potential as a GC stationary phase.

Hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin encapsulated stationary phase based on silica monolith particles for enantioseparation in liquid chromatography

Yao Lu et al.

Summary: A new method for developing a chiral stationary phase for enantioseparation in liquid chromatography was introduced by incorporating hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin-encapsulated stationary phase on silica monolith particles through physical embedding. The experimental results show promising potential in separating chiral enantiomers using sol-gel ground silica particles modified with beta-cyclodextrin.

Silica modification with 9-methylacridine and 9-undecylacridine as mixed-mode stationary phases in HPLC

Elham Sadat Hosseini et al.

Summary: The research synthesized two acridine derivatives and developed two mixed-mode stationary phases by functionalizing silica. These stationary phases were designed with multiple interactions, including pi-pi stacking interaction, reverse phase, hydrophilic interaction, and anion exchange, based on the structure of the acridine groups on the silica gel. The performance of the columns was investigated by chromatographic parameters in terms of column efficiency, asymmetry factor, retention factor, and resolution.

Functionalization using polymer or silane? A practical test method to characterize hydrophilic interaction chromatography phases in terms of their functionalization method

Tohru Ikegami et al.

Summary: Commercially available HILIC columns were characterized based on their ability to distinguish structural differences between small molecules in complex matrices. PCA and cluster analysis were used to classify the columns into two main groups with further subdivisions based on stationary phase functionalities. The selectivity of columns for different functional groups and the impact of factors such as hydrophilicity and pH conditions were assessed through analytical tests, contributing to improved column selection for HILIC separations.

Comparison of the steric selectivity on hydrophilic interaction chromatography columns modified with poly(acrylamide) possessing different morphology

Ashin Taniguchi et al.

Summary: Poly(acrylamide) (PAAm)-modified hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) columns with different polymer morphologies, including brush-like and mushroom-like polymer chains, demonstrated superior retention capacity compared to traditional columns. The significant hydrophilicity of PAAm columns allows for analysis of oligosaccharides even in mixed solvents. The differences in polymer densities and lengths affect the hydrophilic properties and analyte differentiation capabilities of the columns.
