Analysis of frequency and mode shape of rotating-flexible disk-drum coupled structure with non-continuous connections

Qiansheng Tang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the coupling vibration of a rotating-flexible disk-drum structure with a non-continuous connection, analyzing the frequencies and mode shapes of the coupled system. Results show that the frequency increases with the connection point number, with noticeable local deformation of the mode shape when the point number is less than 16. Analysis of frequency curves, mode shapes, and MAC indicates that frequency veering, merging, and bifurcation are primarily due to the vibration coupling and mode shape interaction between coupling modes.

Nonlinear vibrations of fiber-reinforced composite cylindrical shells with bolt loosening boundary conditions

Hui Li et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the nonlinear vibrations of fiber-reinforced composite cylindrical shells with bolted joint boundary conditions, considering the nonlinear amplitude-dependent material property of FRCs and partial bolt loosening conditions. The study uses theoretical modeling and experimental validation to analyze the effects of bolt loosening degree and number on natural frequencies, damping ratios, and resonant response amplitudes of FRCCS structures. The results show that increased bolt loosening leads to decreased natural frequencies, increased damping ratios, and resonant response amplitudes due to the coupling effect of decreased boundary stiffness and increased boundary damping.

Nonlinear vibration analysis of the rotating hard-coating cylindrical shell based on the domain decomposition method

Dongxu Du et al.

Summary: This study investigates the nonlinear vibration behaviors of a rotating hard-coating cylindrical shell under radial harmonic excitations, considering the strain dependences of the storage and loss moduli. The nonlinear equations of motion are established using the Rayleigh-Ritz method and high-order polynomials to accurately characterize strain dependences. By improving the Newton-Raphson method, a specified iteration algorithm is developed to solve the nonlinear equations, validating the proposed model through comparison studies. The effects of rotating speed and excitation amplitude on the nonlinear vibration characteristics of the rotating hard-coating cylindrical shell are also examined.

Parametric study and stability analysis on nonlinear traveling wave vibrations of rotating thin cylindrical shells

Shupeng Sun et al.

Summary: This paper conducts a parametric study and stability analysis on the nonlinear traveling wave vibrations of rotating thin cylindrical shells with simply supported boundary conditions. By establishing a gyro system model with nonlinearity, identifying significant modes and discretizing them to a finite system, the periodic solutions are tracked using harmonic balance method and arc length continuation technique. Parametric studies are performed to investigate the effects of rotating speed, damping ratio, and excitation amplitude on the nonlinear dynamic behavior, while stability analysis of the periodic solutions is carried out using Floquet theory. The results illustrate the nonlinear dynamic evolution of traveling wave vibration for rotating thin cylindrical shells.

Parametric study of damping characteristics of rotating laminated composite cylindrical shells using Haar wavelets

Qiyi Dai et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the damping characteristics of rotating laminated composite cylindrical shells with frequency-dependent damping of composite materials. It is found important to consider the frequency dependence of damping, especially for lower order modes. The effects of frequency, rotation speed, lamination, and geometric parameters on damping properties are also analyzed.

Nonlinear vibration characteristics of fibre reinforced composite cylindrical shells in thermal environment

Hui Li et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an analytical model for fiber reinforced polymer composite cylindrical shells (FRPCCSs) considering material and geometric nonlinearities and thermal effects, which can predict natural frequencies, damping ratios, and resonant responses. Experimental validation shows that the natural frequencies of composite shell specimens initially decrease and then increase with increasing excitation amplitude, while damping ratios and resonant responses of FRPCCSs increase with excitation amplitude and environmental temperature. The study also highlights the significant effect of environmental temperature on the damping performance of FRPCCSs.

Closed-form solution for free vibration of variable-thickness cylindrical shells rotating with a constant angular velocity

Ehsan Taati et al.

Summary: The free vibration behavior of rotating thin cylindrical shells with variable thickness was analyzed based on classical shell theories. The study showed that the influence of thickness variation on natural frequencies and mode shapes is significant, especially for high rotation speeds and cantilever long shells. Differences in results predicted by Donnell's and Love's theories become more pronounced for long and cantilever shells in specific vibration mode shapes.
