A hypervalent iodine-induced disulfenylation of thiophene derivatives with thiophenols via a thiyl radical reaction pathway has been achieved. This transformation provides direct synthetic access to 2,3-disulfenylated thiophene derivatives in 34-78% yields with good functional group compatibility under mild reaction conditions.
