Reckless or righteous? Reviewing the sociotechnical benefits and risks of climate change geoengineering

Benjamin K. Sovacool

Summary: Geoengineering options like GGR and SRM are increasingly seen as crucial complements to traditional climate change mitigation, despite concerns about potential risks and distractions from mitigation efforts. While most research remains technical, the rapidly changing nature of these technologies highlights the need for a more comprehensive understanding of their scalability and deployment potential in both the social and technical realms.

A bibliographic analysis of 20 years of research on innovation and new product development in technology and innovation management (TIM) journals

Christine Pitt et al.

Summary: This perspectives article examines 20 years of research on innovation management and new product development in the TIM domain, focusing on performance, networks, and attention. Using the VOSViewer method, the study assesses the domain’s performance and changes in research attention, and reveals the implications of the results. The findings highlight the link between productive and influential authors, the influence of collaborations on research productivity over influential research, and the inward-looking nature of the field drawing from cognate business and management fields.

The Greta Thunberg Effect: Familiarity with Greta Thunberg predicts intentions to engage in climate activism in the United States

Anandita Sabherwal et al.

Summary: Despite the lack of research on Greta Thunberg's impact, a study found that those more familiar with her are more likely to have higher intentions of engaging in collective actions to reduce global warming, with stronger collective efficacy beliefs mediating this relationship. The association between familiarity with Greta Thunberg, collective efficacy beliefs, and collective action intentions is present across all age groups and political ideologies but may be stronger among those who identify as more liberal. This suggests that young public figures like Greta Thunberg may play a role in motivating collective action, particularly among those with shared political ideologies.

Who are the victims of low-carbon transitions? Towards a political ecology of climate change mitigation

Benjamin K. Sovacool

Summary: This study critically examines the implications of energy justice in climate change mitigation through a review of literature on geography and political ecology over the past 20 years. It identifies four distinct processes in the political ecology of low-carbon transitions and suggests areas for future research, emphasizing inclusivity, diversity, and policy focus. The study highlights the need to prioritize sustainability over poverty in low-carbon transitions and climate action, aiming for a more pluralistic, democratic, and just future.
