Rapid and multiplexed quantification of Salmonella, Escherichia coli O157: H7, and Shigella flexneri in ground beef using flow cytometry

Ziquan Wang et al.

Summary: A rapid and quantitative method for multiplexed detection of Salmonella, E. coli O157:H7, and S. flexneri in ground beef was developed using a sample pretreatment protocol and flow cytometry, enabling analysis within 1 hour without the need for cultural enrichment. The method demonstrated good recovery rates for the three pathogens and had a detection range of 103 to 108 cells/g, with detection limits of 3.1 x 103 cells/g for Salmonella, 2.1 x 103 cells/g for E. coli O157:H7, and 2.3 x 103 cells/g for S. flexneri in ground beef.

Faster Detection of Staphylococcus aureus in Milk and Milk Powder by Flow Cytometry

Siyuan Liu et al.

Summary: A flow cytometry-based method has been developed for the faster detection of Staphylococcus aureus in milk and milk powder, with a 5-hour pre-enrichment period and a limit of detection of 7.50 cells/mL in milk and 8.30 cells/g in milk powder. This method allows effective and faster monitoring of S. aureus contamination in dairy products.

Analysis of methods for quantifying yeast cell concentration in complex lignocellulosic fermentation processes

Ruifei Wang et al.

Summary: Cell mass and viability play a crucial role in the productivity of fermentation processes, especially in lignocellulosic media. Various methods were evaluated for quantifying yeast cell concentrations, with manual cell enumeration and colony forming unit enumeration proving to be the most reliable in lignocellulosic conditions.Developing reliable cell quantification methods in lignocellulosic contexts will further optimize and control fermentation processes.
