First Phenol Carboxylation with CO2 on Carbon Nanostructured C@Fe-Al2O3 Hybrids in Aqueous Media under Mild Conditions

Feliciano Calvo-Castanera et al.

Summary: Novel hybrid materials C@Fe-Al2O3 were synthesized and characterized for their catalytic behavior, with results showing correlation between carbon surface compositions and catalytic activities, making them suitable for alternative reactions in valorization of industrial effluents. In aqueous media, hybrid samples with the highest graphitic characteristic and most hydrophobic behavior exhibited the highest conversion of phenol.

Synthesis of a Series of Diaminoindoles

James S. Martin et al.

Summary: A 10-step synthesis was developed from 4-nitroindole to obtain a selection of 3,4-diaminoindoles, which was then adapted to synthesize 3,5-; 3,6-; and 3,7-diaminoindoles from the corresponding 5-, 6-, or 7-nitroindole. These novel intermediates with orthogonal protecting groups represent the first reported synthesis of these types of compounds, providing potential for further diversification.
