Thiophene-Bridged Donor-Acceptor sp2-Carbon-Linked 2D Conjugated Polymers as Photocathodes for Water Reduction

Shunqi Xu et al.

Summary: The synthesis of a novel bithiophene-bridged conjugated polymer for photoelectrochemical water reduction is demonstrated, showing promising properties for efficient charge transfer. The polymer exhibits a wide light-harvesting range, suitable optical energy gap, and high photocurrent density for hydrogen evolution.

2,4,6-Triphenyl-1,3,5-Triazine Based Covalent Organic Frameworks for Photoelectrochemical H2 Evolution

Chunhui Dai et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the superior performance of two covalent organic frameworks (COFs) incorporated with 2,4,6-triphenyl-1,3,5-triazine as photocathodes for H-2 production. By introducing 2,4,6-triphenylbenzene to create donor/acceptor pairs within COF, a significantly enhanced visible-light photocurrent is obtained, attributed to the narrowed bandgap and improved charge transfer by intramolecular donor-acceptor combination. This work suggests promising applications of crystalline donor-acceptor COFs as high-efficiency organic photoelectrodes for water splitting.

Conjugated Porous Polymers: Ground-Breaking Materials for Solar Energy Conversion

Mariam Barawi et al.

Summary: The use of organic polymers, particularly conjugated porous polymers (CPPs), in solar energy conversion as photocatalysts shows promising potential due to their improved light harvesting, charge conduction properties, high photochemical stability, and high surface area. Their application in hydrogen evolution and CO2 reduction reactions, as well as their use as photoelectrodes, are reviewed, focusing on their photocatalytic properties. The discussion also touches upon the photophysics related to these applications, and proposes an in situ and operando characterization methodology for future improvements in optoelectronic properties.
