Gas sensor based on cobalt-doped 3D inverse opal SnO2 for air quality monitoring

Ke Chen et al.

Summary: A novel gas sensor was developed for ultrasensitive and tunably selective detection of formaldehyde and acetone using cobalt-doped SnO2 multilayer films. The sensor showed superior gas detection performance due to its larger specific surface area, effective gas accessibility, high catalytic activity, and increased chemisorbed oxygen species. Additionally, the sensor demonstrated dual-model gas sensing characteristics for formaldehyde and acetone detection at different operating temperatures.

SnO2 nanowires decorated by insulating amorphous carbon layers for improved room-temperature NO2 sensing

Myung Sik Choi et al.

Summary: Gas sensors were fabricated by decorating amorphous carbon layers on SnO2 nanowires, without the need for pretreatment or functionalization, and operated at room temperature. The amorphous carbon increased surface area and improved NO(2) gas sensing by providing electronic effects to the SnO2.

Biomass-derived porous ZnO hierarchical microtubules for conductometric detection of n-butanol vapor

Tian-Ci Shao et al.

Summary: Porous ZnO hierarchical microtubules were prepared as a sensing material for the rapid detection of n-butanol vapor, showing superior performance compared to reported sensors. The excellent gas-sensing capability is attributed to the synergistic effect of the inherent characteristics of porous ZnO hierarchical microtubules, surface adsorbed oxygen, and bio-template imprinting.

Template-Free Construction of Tin Oxide Porous Hollow Microspheres for Room-Temperature Gas Sensors

Licheng Zhou et al.

Summary: The template-free method proposed in this study for constructing tin oxide (SnO2) porous hollow microspheres (PHMs) relies on the competition between solvent evaporation rate and phase separation dynamics of colloidal SnO2 quantum wires. The resulting SnO2 PHMs exhibit desirable structural stability and can be directly deposited onto device substrates for the fabrication of semiconductor gas sensors, simplifying the process and enhancing gas-sensing capabilities.

Nguyen Manh Hung et al.

Summary: A unique combination of nanojunction-networked SnO2 nanowires and pulsed UV-radiation shows high response gas sensors working at room temperature. The pulsed UV-radiation significantly enhances gas response and reduces response and recovery times. The enhancement of gas response is attributed to the photogeneration of electron-hole pairs.

The controllable assembly of the heterojunction interface of the ZnO@rGO for enhancing the sensing performance of NO2 at room temperature and sensing mechanism

Rui Gao et al.

Summary: The ZnO@rGO composite was grown in-situ on a ceramic tube substrate without the use of a template or surfactant, resulting in improved material conductivity and increased active sites for adsorption of NO2 molecules. The combination of rGO and ZnO significantly enhanced the response of the composite to NO2 at room temperature, showing excellent selectivity and a good linear relationship in the concentration range of 0.1 to 10 ppm. XPS and GC-MS technologies were used to examine changes in element composition and status before and after exposure to NO2, and DFT calculations demonstrated the beneficial effect of the p-n heterostructure on improving gas response capability.
