Revisiting the Classical Experiment in Earthquake Control at the Rangely Oil Field, Colorado, 1970, Using a Coupled Flow and Geomechanical Model

Summary: The study revisited the injection experiment at the Rangely oil field using a mechanistic approach to investigate the occurrence of earthquakes. Through geological modeling, reservoir simulation, and geomechanical simulations, it was found that earthquakes were triggered by pressure diffusion through permeable fractures and were classified as either triggered or induced depending on their location relative to the injection interval.
