High-temperature mechanical properties of FeCoCrNi high-entropy alloys fabricated via selective laser melting

Danyang Lin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the tensile properties of FeCoCrNi HEAs under various temperatures and strain rates, revealing a significant decrease in tensile strength at high temperatures and establishing a structure-mechanism-property relationship. The parameters of a constitutive model were calculated to predict flow behavior at elevated temperatures, providing insights for the development and improvement of SLM-HEAs for high-temperature applications.

Preliminary study on the fabrication of 14Cr-ODS FeCrAl alloy by powder forging

Sajian Wu et al.

Summary: This study introduces a simple powder forging process to fabricate a high-density and high-strength ODS FeCrAl alloy, which exhibits excellent mechanical properties and shows outstanding toughness and ductility below 700 degrees Celsius. The low residual porosity and orthorhombic YAlO3 oxide nanoparticles contribute to the superior performance of the alloy.

The high temperature mechanical properties and the correlated microstructure/texture evolutions of a TWIP high entropy alloy

A. Nabizada et al.

Summary: This study investigates the microstructure and texture evolutions of a TWIP-type high entropy alloy at various deformation temperatures, revealing extraordinary work hardening behavior at room temperature. The alloy's work hardening capacity deteriorated at higher temperatures due to increased dislocation annihilation rate and stacking fault energy values, but its ability for dislocation storage remained high compared to other single-phase high entropy alloys. Serrated flow was observed at 773 and 873K due to the dynamic strain aging mechanism, which surprisingly had a beneficial effect on overall ductility.

Mechanical behavior of high-entropy alloys

Weidong Li et al.

Summary: Research in high-entropy alloys has been booming since the 2010s, focusing on the vast potential in compositions, microstructures, and properties. Efforts are mainly directed towards exploring the compositional space and microstructures, as well as understanding the mechanical behavior. However, there is still a lack of comprehensive studies on the mechanical behavior of high-entropy alloys.

Improving high-temperature mechanical properties of cast CrFeCoNi high-entropy alloy by highly thermostable in-situ precipitated carbides

X. W. Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, significant high-temperature strengthening of cast CrFeCoNi HEA was achieved by in-situ precipitation of highly thermostable carbides, addressing the insufficient medium- and high-temperature strengths. The high thermostability of the microstructure, formed by the synergy of lacking growth driving force and Zenner pinning effect by carbides, contributes to the improved mechanical properties at elevated temperatures. The strengthening effect is mainly attributed to the precipitation hardening of carbide particles, leading to increased yield strength and ultimate tensile strength with enhanced elongation at higher temperatures.

The effects of Y pre-alloying on the in-situ dispersoids of ODS CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy

SeungHyeok Chung et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of in-situ and ex-situ oxide dispersoid formation in oxide dispersion strengthened high-entropy alloys using two different powder preparation methods classified by yttrium addition strategy. The in-situ dispersoid formation was observed dominantly in the Y-alloyed ODS-HEA, leading to an increase in Zener pinning forces on grain boundary movement. The presence of in-situ oxide dispersoids enhanced the formation of ultrafine-grained structures, resulting in an enhancement of tensile strength in the CoCrFeMnNi HEA.

Temperature dependent deformation behavior and stacking fault energy of Fe40Mn40Co10Cr10 alloy

A. K. Chandan et al.

Summary: The variation of stacking fault energy (SFE) with temperature in Fe40Mn40Co10Cr10 high entropy alloy was experimentally evaluated, showing a transition in deformation behavior from limited twin formation and slip dominance at room temperature to mixed-mode consisting of FCC -> HCP transformation and twinning at -100 degrees C. The simultaneous occurrence of twins and deformation-induced martensitic transformation at -100 degrees C led to superior strength-ductility combination in the specimen. The increase in SFE at room temperature, despite the removal of Ni, can be understood by considering the effect of alloy chemistry re-adjustment on Delta G(gamma ->epsilon).
