Occurrence of pyrethroids in the atmosphere of urban areas of Southeastern Brazil: Inhalation exposure and health risk assessment

Yago Guida et al.

Summary: This study assessed the occurrence, seasonal variation, and potential sources of pyrethroids in ambient air of two urban regions in Southeastern Brazil. The atmospheric concentrations of pyrethroids were found to be considerably higher than those reported in previous studies worldwide. Cypermethrin and permethrin accounted for 95% of the total measured pyrethroids in ambient air, with no direct health risks identified through inhalation exposure.

Examining the developmental toxicity of piperonyl butoxide as a Sonic hedgehog pathway inhibitor

Kenneth S. Rivera-Gonzalez et al.

Summary: Piperonyl butoxide (PBO) is a widely used semisynthetic chemical in pesticide formulations, acting as a pesticide synergist and inhibitor of Sonic hedgehog signaling. Animal studies suggest that prenatal exposure to PBO can lead to craniofacial malformations or neurodevelopmental abnormalities, with human studies linking PBO exposure to neurodevelopmental deficits. Further research is needed to better understand the developmental toxicity and potential contribution of PBO to human birth defects.

Evaluate the Toxicity of Pyrethroid Insecticide Cypermethrin before and after Biodegradation by Lysinibacillus cresolivuorans Strain HIS7

Ebrahim Saied et al.

Summary: The bacterial isolate Lysinibacillus cresolivuorans HIS7 showed high efficacy in degrading cypermethrin, with degradation percentage increasing significantly in soil after optimizing environmental factors. The biodegradation products exhibited decreased toxicity compared to the original cypermethrin, as confirmed by various analyses including HPLC and GC-MS.
