Dietary phillygenin supplementation ameliorates aflatoxin B1-induced oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis in chicken liver

Jing Guo et al.

Summary: This research aimed to investigate the preventive effects of Phillygenin (PHI) on the toxicity of Aflatoxin B-1 (AFB(1)) in the liver of chickens. Results revealed that dietary PHI ameliorated liver function indicators, reduced oxidative damage and inflammatory response, decreased apoptosis, and increased antioxidant enzyme contents by inhibiting NF-kappa B and activating the Nrf2 signaling pathway. This study provides new insight into the therapeutic uses of PHI.

Versicolorin A enhances the genotoxicity of aflatoxin B1 in human liver cells by inducing the transactivation of the Ah-receptor

Clemence Budin et al.

Summary: Aflatoxins, particularly AFB1, have major adverse effects on human health by becoming a potent carcinogen once converted into a DNA-reactive form. This study found that VerA and AFB1 have similar cytotoxic effects and genotoxicity, with VerA also activating the aryl hydrocarbon receptor to enhance AFB1 genotoxicity.
