Scaling of the strange-metal scattering in unconventional superconductors

Jie Yuan et al.

Summary: The research uncovers the precise quantitative scaling laws among the superconducting transition temperature, the linear-in-T scattering coefficient, and the doping level in electron-doped copper oxide La2-xCexCuO4, suggesting a common mechanism of the strange-metal behavior and unconventional superconductivity in these systems.

Non-Fermi liquid phase and linear-in-temperature scattering rate in overdoped two-dimensional Hubbard model

Wei Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, the electronic scattering rate in cuprate superconductors was investigated using cluster generalization of dynamical mean-field theory, revealing the presence of a non-Fermi liquid phase with linear temperature dependence of the scattering rate, originating from antiferromagnetic fluctuations.

Exact universal chaos, speed limit, acceleration, Planckian transport coefficient, collapse to equilibrium, and other bounds in thermal quantum systems

Zohar Nussinov et al.

Summary: In this study, we introduce local uncertainty relations in thermal many-body systems and derive basic bounds based on these relations. The derived bounds cover various aspects such as speed limits, acceleration or force/stress, transport coefficients, correlation functions, Lyapunov exponents, etc. These bounds hold at all temperatures and regardless of interaction range, and they are relatively close to experimental data. The results shed light on the nearly instantaneous collapse to energy eigenstates in macroscopic interacting many-body quantum systems and the inhibitory effect of random off-diagonal matrix elements of local operators on their dynamics.

Reduced Hall carrier density in the overdoped strange metal regime of cuprate superconductors

Carsten Putzke et al.

Summary: Study of the high-field Hall coefficient in thallium- and bismuth-based single-layer cuprates reveals a smooth evolution of this quantity from p to 1 + p over a wide doping range. The evolution of n(H) correlates with the emergence of the anomalous linear-in-temperature term in the low-temperature in-plane resistivity, suggesting that quasiparticle decoherence may extend to dopings well beyond the pseudogap regime.

Incoherent transport across the strange-metal regime of overdoped cuprates

J. Ayres et al.

Summary: Strange metals exhibit unconventional electrical properties such as linear resistivity, inverse Hall angle, and linear magnetoresistance. Research suggests that these anomalies in cuprates may be related to a quantum critical point inside the superconducting dome, extending beyond the critical doping level. The presence of two charge sectors, one with coherent quasiparticles and the other with scale-invariant 'Planckian' dissipators, indicates a complex behavior in the strange-metal regime.

Strange Metals as Ersatz Fermi Liquids

Dominic V. Else et al.

Summary: This letter addresses the long-standing mystery of strange non-Fermi liquid metals in different quantum materials, particularly focusing on the linear resistivity with temperature in translation invariant metals. By examining the frequency-dependent conductivity and the intrinsic physics of low energy fixed points, the T-linear resistivity is explained. Additionally, the presence of a diverging susceptibility for certain operators under inversion and time reversal symmetries in compressible translation invariant metals is discussed.

Possible superconductivity from incoherent carriers in overdoped cuprates

M. Culo et al.

Summary: Research shows that the normal superconducting state of overdoped cuprates consists of two distinct charge sectors - one governed by coherent quasiparticle excitations and the other characterized by non-quasiparticle dissipation. The superfluid density decreases with increased hole doping, reaching zero at the superconducting dome edge, while the Hall number transitions from p to 1+p. The growth in superfluid density may be compensated by the loss of carriers in the coherent sector as hole doping decreases.

Counterexample to the conjectured Planckian bound on transport

Strange metal behavior of the Hall angle in twisted bilayer graphene

Rui Lyu et al.

Summary: Twisted bilayer graphene (TBG) near the magic angle with flat bands exhibits correlated states including Mott-like insulators, superconductivity, and magnetism. The linear temperature-dependent normal state resistivity in TBG can be attributed to both an exotic Planckian dissipation mechanism and conventional electron-phonon scattering. However, the observed anomalous temperature dependence of longitudinal and Hall resistivities in near-magic-angle TBG contradicts predictions based on quasiparticle transport theory.

Resistivity saturation in an electron-doped cuprate
