A high-resolution picture of kinship practices in an Early Neolithic tomb

Chris Fowler et al.

Summary: Through archaeological and genetic analyses, it was found that in Early Neolithic Britain, patrilineal descent played a key role in determining burial practices at Hazleton North long cairn, with evidence of male individuals reproducing with multiple women and maternal sub-lineages being recognized during the construction of the tomb. Additionally, social bonds independent of biological relatedness were also observed among individuals buried at the tomb.

Genomic insights into the formation of human populations in East Asia

Chuan-Chao Wang et al.

Summary: Using genome-wide data from 166 East Asian individuals dating to between 6000 BC and AD 1000, this study reveals the population history of Japan, the Amur River Basin, Taiwan, and the Tibetan Plateau. It traces expansions from different regions in East Asia during the Holocene epoch, shedding light on the genetic origins of present-day East Asian populations.

The first quantitative assessment of radiocarbon chronologies for initial pottery in Island Southeast Asia supports multi-directional Neolithic dispersal

Ethan E. Cochrane et al.

Summary: The Neolithization process in Island Southeast Asia was multi-directional, with early pottery contemporaneously deposited in western Borneo and the northern Philippines. This study supports emerging research that identifies separate processes of biological, linguistic, and material culture change in Island Southeast Asia.
