Vitamin D and green tea extracts for the treatment of uterine fibroids in late reproductive life: a pilot, prospective, daily-diary based study

Giovanni Grandi et al.

Summary: The simultaneous administration of Vitamin D and Epigallocatechin gallate has shown significant reduction in uterine fibroid size, particularly in patients with intramural type. There was a decrease in menstrual flow length after treatment, but no other significant changes were observed. Patients reported high satisfaction with the treatment.

Dietary Natural Compounds and Vitamins as Potential Cofactors in Uterine Fibroids Growth and Development

Iwona Szydlowska et al.

Summary: The literature analysis on the risks of uterine fibroids occurrence and dietary factors revealed that Vitamin D deficiency is strongly associated with UFs formation, while Vitamin A might have a preventive or limiting effect on fibroid growth. The effects of Vitamin E and C supplementation are inconclusive, but a diet rich in fruits and vegetables is beneficial for patients with UFs. Other natural substances like curcumin can reduce oxidative stress and inflammation in leiomyoma.

Peptide ancestry informative markers in uterine neoplasms from women of European, African, and Asian ancestry

Nicholas W. Bateman et al.

Summary: Characterization of ancestry-linked peptide variants in disease-relevant patient tissues is important for understanding the relationship between patient ancestry and disease pathogenesis. The study identifies peptide ancestry informative markers (pAIMs) to determine ancestry proportions and their correlation with patient race and genotype. The findings contribute to the understanding of the impact of ancestry on the human proteome and its relevance to uterine neoplasms.

CYP24A1expression analysis in uterine leiomyoma regardingMED12mutation profile

Elnaz Fazeli et al.

Summary: This study investigated the expression level of CYP24A1 in uterine leiomyoma samples compared to adjacent tissues. Results showed that CYP24A1 gene was ectopically expressed in 18% of uterine leiomyoma tissues, independent of the MED12 mutation profile. This supports the idea that dysregulation of vitamin D signaling and metabolic pathways may be involved in some subtypes of ULMs.

Vitamin D: Mechanism of Action and Biological Effects in Uterine Fibroids

Daniele Vergara et al.

Summary: Uterine fibroids (UFs) are the most common benign gynecological tumors, with symptoms that can impact quality of life, often requiring pharmacological or surgical treatments. Studies on the potential biological effects of vitamin D supplementation in UFs are increasing, but clinical research only partially supports the beneficial effects of vitamin D in reducing UFs growth and tumor volume.

Abdelrahman AlAshqar et al.

Summary: Inflammation plays a crucial role in the development of common benign gynecologic disorders by promoting proliferation, angiogenesis, and lesion progression. The interaction between inflammation and benign gynecologic disorders is influenced by various factors such as sex steroids, genetics, epigenetics, extracellular matrix, stem cells, cardiometabolic risk factors, diet, vitamin D, and the immune system.

Summary: The majority of participants in this study were found to have vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency, with significant associations between low serum vitamin D levels and gynecologic diseases such as abnormal Pap smear results, high-risk HPV infection, and dysmenorrhea. Low plasma vitamin D as a predictor of uterine fibroids in a nigerian population

Karima Abubakar Tunau et al.

Summary: This study found that women with uterine fibroids had significantly lower plasma levels of Vitamin D compared to those without uterine fibroids. Vitamin D deficiency in the pathogenesis of leiomyoma and intravascular leiomyomatosis: A case report and review of the literature

Ian Judson et al.

Summary: This case study describes a pre-menopausal woman of African-Caribbean heritage with recurrent intravascular leiomyomatosis, who responded well to estrogen suppression therapy and showed further regression of the disease after exposure to strong sunlight. The hypothesis that vitamin D played a beneficial role in the treatment is discussed, along with the potential role of hypovitaminosis D in the pathogenesis of uterine leiomyomata. Additionally, the article discusses the limited data on the intermediate malignant nature of intravascular leiomyomatosis and the lack of reports linking this condition to vitamin D deficiency.
