The role of androgen and its related signals in PCOS

Wenting Ye et al.

Summary: PCOS is the most common endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age, but its underlying pathogenic mechanisms are not completely understood. Hyperandrogenism, an important clinical feature, plays a pathologic role in the development of PCOS, but the actual role of androgen in PCOS and its complications has not been clarified.

Influence of ethnicity on different aspects of polycystic ovary syndrome: a systematic review

Suleyman N. Sendur et al.

Summary: The clinical presentation and treatment outcomes of patients with PCOS vary significantly among different ethnicities, including differences in hirsutism, hormone levels, body weight, and insulin resistance. These variations show distinct differences among ethnic groups in the clinical phenotype of PCOS.

Steroid metabolome profiling of follicular fluid in normo- and hyperandrogenic women with polycystic ovary syndrome

Zuwei Yang et al.

Summary: This study found that the most prevalent phenotype of PCOS in Chinese women is normo-androgenic PCOS (NA-PCOS), and that there were no significant differences in intrafollicular steroid levels and product/precursor ratios between NA-PCOS and hyperandrogenic PCOS (HA-PCOS) women. However, HA-PCOS women did have significantly higher serum luteinizing hormone and testosterone levels compared to NA-PCOS women.

Correlation between steroid levels in follicular fluid and hormone synthesis related substances in its exosomes and embryo quality in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome

Li Yu et al.

Summary: The study found that levels of estrogen and pregnenolone in follicular fluid of PCOS patients were significantly increased, while progesterone levels were decreased, and mRNA levels of CYP11A and HSD17B2 were negatively correlated with embryo quality and development rate. These results suggest that increased levels of estrogen and pregnenolone in follicular fluid may affect follicle development in PCOS patients.
