The role of renewable energy and urbanization towards greenhouse gas emission in top Asian countries: Evidence from advance panel estimations

Fengsheng Chien et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the impact of clean energy, urbanization, and economic growth on greenhouse gas emissions in ten Asian States from 1995 to 2018 using a cross-sectional autoregressive distributed lagged (CS-ARDL) model. The study finds that clean energy and GDP(2) play a constructive role in reducing GHG emissions, while urbanization and economic growth contribute to increased emissions. The findings have policy implications for energy economics and environmental sustainability.

Nexus between green finance and climate change mitigation in N-11 and BRICS countries: empirical estimation through difference in differences (DID) approach

Muhammad Atif Nawaz et al.

Summary: The study found that in N-11 countries, factors such as renewable energy consumption, foreign direct investment, CO2 emissions, Human Development Index (HDI), and investment in the energy sector by the private sector have significant impacts on promoting green financing and climate change mitigation. Matching analysis showed mixed results for both treated and untreated countries, with some experiencing improvements while others saw decreases in green financing and climate change mitigation. Overall, the difference in differences (DID) method showed no significant difference among the countries.

The nexus among climate change, economic growth, foreign direct investments, and financial development: New evidence from N-11 countries

Alper Aslan et al.

Summary: This article investigates the relationship between air pollution, economic growth, energy use, trade openness, foreign direct investment, and financial development in N-11 countries from 1980 to 2018. The results suggest that energy consumption and financial development have negative impacts on CO2 emissions, while foreign direct investment leads to an increase in pollution. The study also identifies bidirectional causality between financial development and CO2 emissions, energy use, foreign direct investments, and energy consumption.

Trilemma association of energy consumption, carbon emission, and economic growth of BRICS and OECD regions: quantile regression estimation

Muhammad Atif Nawaz et al.

Summary: Recent research has shown the impact of GDP growth and energy consumption on carbon emission in BRICS and OECD economies. The study found a negative correlation between GDP and carbon emission, and a positive correlation between non-renewable energy consumption and carbon emission. Additionally, carbon emission decreases with increase in gross capital formation, while trade openness has no significant impact on carbon emission. An RE-based energy production approach is recommended for future projects in the selected region.

Assessing the efficiency and total factor productivity growth of the banking industry: do environmental concerns matters?

Faluk Shair et al.

Summary: The study finds that credit and liquidity risks have a positive effect on the efficiency and TFP growth of the banking industry in Pakistan, while insolvency risk has a negative effect. Competition leads to improved technological efficiency but decreases technical efficiency growth. Additionally, factors such as operational cost management, banking sector development, GDP growth rate, and infrastructure development show significant relationships with various efficiencies and TFP growth in the banking industry.

Integration and economic viability of fueling the future with green hydrogen: An integration of its determinants from renewable economics

Huang Xiang et al.

Summary: The study examines the production of renewable hydrogen in Pakistan, with wind energy identified as the best option for manufacturing renewable energy, while biomass is considered the most viable raw material for establishing a hydrogen supply network. Solar energy is recognized as the second-best candidate for hydrogen production, due to its low-cost installation and production potential.

Solomon Prince Nathaniel et al.

Summary: The study analyzes data from six G7 countries using econometric techniques, finding that nuclear energy plays a significant role in reducing CO2 emissions, while renewable energy is insignificant. Economic growth initially boosts CO2 emissions but mitigates it later on, with nuclear energy reducing emissions in most countries and renewable energy having significant effects only in Canada and France.

Consumption of liquefied petroleum gas and the EKC hypothesis in South Asia: evidence from cross-sectionally dependent heterogeneous panel data with structural breaks

Muntasir Murshed et al.

Summary: This paper explores the authenticity of the EKC hypothesis for six South Asian economies in the context of both aggregate and disaggregated greenhouse emissions. The study validates the existence of the EKC hypothesis and reveals heterogeneity in EKC findings across the countries. Furthermore, it is found that LPG consumption reduces greenhouse emissions in all economies, indicating its potential as a transitional fuel for South Asian countries before transitioning to renewable energy sources.

Muntasir Murshed et al.

Summary: This study tests the validity of the Environmental Kuznets Curve hypothesis in Bangladesh, confirming a nonlinear relationship between economic growth and deforestation practices. The results show that energy consumption promotes deforestation in the long run, while population growth rate and agricultural land expansion lead to greater deforestation in both the short and long terms. Policy implications include effective measures to reduce deforestation practices in Bangladesh.
