The use of aperture shape controller and convergence mode in radiotherapy treatment planning

Summary: This study investigated the use of Aperture Shape Controller (ASC) and Convergence Mode (CM) in Eclipse (Varian Medical System) for volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) plan quality and complexity. The results showed that using 'on' or 'extended' CM improved plan quality, but using 'extended' CM was not recommended. Additionally, using 'moderate' ASC reduced plan complexity with minimal impact on plan quality. Moreover, it was found that ASC only reduced plan complexity when CM was turned 'on'.

Summary: Surgery significantly improved overall survival compared with IMRT in patients with resectable locally recurrent NPC. ENPG could be considered as the standard treatment option for this patient population, although long-term follow-up is needed to further determine the efficacy and toxicity of this strategy.

Summary: The updated results of the study demonstrate the significant improvement in overall survival for head and neck cancer patients with the addition of concomitant chemotherapy, particularly for those with stage III or IV disease. Induction or adjuvant chemotherapy showed less benefit in increasing overall survival. Additionally, efficacy decreases with age progression.
