MST1-knockdown protects against impairment of working memory via regulating neural activity in depression-like mice

Bin Chen et al.

Summary: This study reported that MST1 knockdown effectively protected against stress-induced memory deficits via modulating neural activities. In addition, neural oscillation analysis could provide assistance for the auxiliary diagnosis and treatment of depression.

Genetics, leadership position, and well-being: An investigation with a large-scale GWAS

Zhaoli Song et al.

Summary: Twin studies have shown that the occupation of leadership roles is a heritable trait, but previous studies have lacked power in identifying specific genes associated with this trait. In this study using data from the UK Biobank, a genome-wide association study was conducted on individuals' leadership phenotypes. Several significant loci were identified, some of which were previously linked to bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Genetic correlations were found between leadership positions and both positive and negative indicators of well-being and health. This study provides insights into the polygenic nature of leadership and its genetic relationship with individuals' well-being and health.

Down-regulation of MST1 in hippocampus protects against stress-induced depression-like behaviours and synaptic plasticity impairments

Yuxing Yan et al.

Summary: Depression is a common mental disorder mainly caused by chronic stress, and activation of MST1 in the hippocampus has been linked to impairments in synaptic plasticity, neuronal dysfunction, and neuroinflammation. Down-regulation of MST1 has shown to protect against stress-induced behavioral dysfunctions in mice models, indicating that MST1 may be a potential target for future antidepressant development.
