Pore-scale flame dynamics in a one-layer porous burner

Roman Fursenko et al.

Summary: A novel design of one-layer porous burner is proposed for experimental studies on flame front dynamics at the pore scale level. Results show that upstream propagation of the combustion wave can lead to oscillations of two different types, including FREI-like pulsations and small-amplitude oscillations. These oscillations have different frequencies and amplitudes, and can coexist within the porous media at different pore channels.

Fundamental Numerical Analysis of a Porous Micro-Combustor Filled with Alumina Spheres: Pore-Scale vs. Volume-Averaged Models

Qingqing Li et al.

Summary: Inserting porous media into the micro-scale combustor space enhances heat recirculation, extending flammability limits and improving flame stability. A pore-scale model (PSM) is developed to consider the detailed structure of the porous media, showing better understanding of combustion characteristics and flame stability limits compared to the volume-averaged model (VAM). The PSM predicts scattered flame zones, larger flame stability range, and other improved parameters compared to VAM, indicating its suitability for simplification in certain configurations of porous micro-combustors.

Pore-resolved simulations of porous media combustion with conjugate heat transfer

Joseph C. Ferguson et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the influence of conjugate heat transfer on flame stability and propagation behavior in porous media combustion, showing that the flame stability regime shifts to higher velocities as the conductivity of the solid material increases.
