Effect of optimum process parameters in rotational-magnetorheological poppet valve polishing

Manjesh Kumar et al.

Summary: This article presents a method for precisely finishing narrow ridge profiles of poppet valves using the rotational-magnetorheological fluid-based finishing process. The impact of process parameters is determined through statistical analysis and simulation of finishing forces. The results show that the finished poppet valves have a smaller surface roughness and may have a longer service life and improved wear and corrosion resistance.

Summary: The study introduces a vibration-assisted magnetorheological finishing method to enhance the shearing effects of polishing. Experimental results show that variations in vibration parameters affect surface quality and polishing forces, with higher amplitudes and frequencies leading to better surface quality.

Improvement in Surface Characteristics of SS316L Tiny Gear Profiles by Magnetorheological-Polishing Fluid Using Flow Restrictor

Manjesh Kumar et al.

Summary: Nano-finishing of small-scale gears is challenging due to their geometric complexity and narrow spacing between teeth. A novel flow restrictor and magnetorheological-polishing fluid are utilized to polish stainless-steel tiny gear teeth profiles, achieving a minimum surface roughness of 23.9 nm and removing all surface defects effectively. Theoretical analysis of magnetic force responsible for finishing process is also conducted to accurately understand the process.
